More Islands to Explore

Yahoo! Travel has an article this morning about the "10 Islands to Explore Before You Die."  They covered some of the basics-- Bali, Bora Bora, plus some road-less-traveled archipelagos, such as Chiloé and Penang.  Here are a few more of our favorites to add to the list:

If you're visiting Normandy or Brittany, and need a quick British fix, take a ferry out to one of the Channel Islands.  Full of history, cows, and pubs, these islands lend themselves well to days full of  leisurely bike rides, building sandcastles, or cliffside strolls.

Walk through Avalon, eat fish & chips, go mountain biking, take pictures of the buffalo and the sea lions, kayak, and/or go boogie boarding in the bigger waves on the "backside" of the island.  But please, for the love of all things good in this world, don a clammy wetsuit and go snorkeling or scuba diving in the kelp forests.  It's worth the cold water and your soul will thank you.

Maybe to you, "island" doesn't have to mean beaches, palm trees, and cruise ships hovering offshore.  Maybe it can mean dog sledding, glaciers, volcanoes, and Northern Lights. Go in September to experience the annual sheep roundup which is followed by traditional festivals.

What's your favorite island?  Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page!
