The Pierre hotel has a legendary history, having housed celebrities, moguls, socialites, politicians, and even transformed into TV and movie sets spanning its 80 years. It now takes its place among Manhattan’s celebrated landmarks. Originally opened in 1930, the Pierre quickly became a favorite among New York millionaire elites, including the Vanderbilts and JP Morgan, who were drawn in in part by the cuisine of framed chef August Escoffier, the era’s celebrity chef. More recently, the building starred in feature films such as Meet Joe Black and Scent of a Woman as well as television series M*A*S*H, The Sopranos, and CSI: NY. It’s even gotten wrapped up in the reality TV craze, serving as backdrop to a commitment ceremony of one of the Real Housewives.
