Weird Hotels

For some, a hotel is just a place to sleep.  For others, a great hotel can be a destination in itself.  Here are some weird and funky hotels that caught our eye recently:

Yunak Evleri Cave Hotel.  Ever slept in a cave?  This one's not filled with bats or bears, just sumptuous furnishings and comfy fabrics that provide a nice contrast to the stone walls, ceilings and floors.  Learn a bit about the ancient history and unique geology of the Cappadocia region by immersing yourself in this special hotel experience.

Tree Hotel.  Tree forts are the stuff of many a lazy summer afternoon.  This hotel, located in the Swedish village of Harads on the Arctic Circle, can bring that fantasy to life.  Inspired by a love of nature, this hotel was built to combine a modern Scandinavian design aesthetic with the natural beauty that surrounds it.

Winvian.  The Helicopter Cottage at this Connecticut retreat is exactly what it says on the tin.  You can sleep in a U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter that has been fitted with a minibar, sofa, and flatscreen TV.  Perfect for the amateur pilot or Ashton Kutcher fan.  Some of their other cottages have names like "Secret Society," "CT Yankee in King Arthur's Court," and "Music," the better to whet your curiosity and imagination.
