Day trip train excursions

Love trains?  Taking a day trip to see the sights from a tourist train can be a comfortable, relaxing way for the whole family to see more of an area when on vacation. Here are some of our favorite train excursions to fit into your next trip.

 Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Colorado, US.  This historic train has been in continuous operation for 128 years, carrying passengers behind vintage steam locomotives to experience the excellent mountain and valley views.

Snowdon Mountain Railway in North Wales, UK.  Ride the Snowdon Mountain Railway into the heart of Snowdonia National Park, to the highest point in Wales.

Shinkansen Bullet train, Tokyo, Japan.  See Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi on a day trip from Tokyo on a day trip that gets you away from the hustle of the city into the crisp mountain air. The best time to go?  Fall foliage season.  

Kuranda Scenic Railway, North Queensland, Australia.
When visiting Cairns and Tropical North Queensland, this is a day trip not to be missed, where you'll to discover the pioneering history of the region and learn about the engineering feats that shaped it.   

Alberni Pacific Railway, Vancouver Island, Canada. Vancouver Island's glacial peaks, fir forests, and gentle beaches are stunning no matter how you see them. Add on an overnight or biking package to this train ride for an even more invigorating experience.
