My Weekend at The Mark

I was coming off a busy month spent entertaining family from out of town, and though I was sad to see them go, I was also looking forward to some down time. Luckily, I was able to spend a relaxing weekend at The Mark in New York City—a stay I had won at a FROSCH cocktail event held back in the spring.

The Mark is a newly renovated French style property nestled on 77th street between Madison and 5th Avenue. My room was only on the third floor, but you couldn’t hear a sound from the busy streets below. With a plush king size bed, all day room service and an automated hand-held system that controls all of the electronics in the room—including the shades—I could have easily spent the entire weekend hibernating in this Upper East Side hideaway. And while I was definitely tempted to spend all day Saturday catching up on sleep, I decided to venture out instead. With the 4 and 6 trains only two blocks away, I was only a quick subway ride away from some of the must-see museum exhibits and decided to check them out.
Back at The Mark, the most difficult part of the weekend came at dinner on Saturday night: deciding what to eat at the hotel’s Jean-Georges restaurant. The restaurant is a little on the pricey side and reservations should definitely be made in advance, but the food and the service justify the cost. I started with the sushi grade fluke and avocado salad with soy-yuzu dressing and then had the fettuccine meyer lemon with parmesan and black pepper to satisfy the “carb craving” I’d had all day. I wrapped up the meal with warm chocolate cake and caramel ice cream.

After dinner, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use one of the hotel’s luxurious deep soaking tubs. With a separate shower and tub and double sinks accented by black and white Italian marble, the bathrooms at The Mark are one of their signature features.

With my energy back, I wrapped up the weekend with an early morning run in Central Park on Sunday—the hotel is only a block away from the famous park and a short jog to the reservoir. After washing up and packing I was able to enjoy a delicious breakfast of an egg white omelette with spinach and gruyere cheese and fresh squeezed orange juice, which, if you book with FROSCH, is included as part of the hotel’s Signature amenities.
